Già il cold open con questo nuovo personaggio, Gyp Rosetti, tira il primo pugno con un omicidio a sangue freddo di un passante che ha usato un espressione non proprio educata con il mafioso di turno. Il Signor Rosetti non è certo una persona molto raffinata, e se questo sarà il livello di badassitudine della stagione, siamo su livelli decisamente creep, ma assolutamente accattivanti. Nucky invece lo stile ce l’ha, e lo dimostra nella scena che fa da contraltare a quella di Gyp, ma il risultato è lo stesso, riprendendo il tema finale della stagione scorsa, “you cannot be half a gangster” (o come un altro nostro amico direbbe “no more half measures”), e chi ruba deve morire, non si discute.

Passata questa prima sbornia di sangue e violenza il ritmo della narrazione rallenta, perché tutto sommato siamo alla premiere e non è che ci possono dare 60 minuti di pistolettate e cric in testa; siamo pur sempre sulla HBO, servono pure le tette! E non ce le facciamo mancare, specie perché siamo a capodanno, che significa feste e in HBO non c’è festa senza tetta.

Tornando seri, si rallenta anche perché dobbiamo riprendere il filo, non solo perché son passati un po di mesi dal bellissimo “To the Lost”, ma anche perché per i protagonisti è passato un bel po’ di tempo e dobbiamo capire dove siamo finiti, prima di iniziare quella solita partita a scacchi che è la stagione sul Boardwalk di Atlantic City. E questo episodio ci introduce tutto ciò che è cambiato, con maggiore attenzione certamente a Nucky e l’universo che gli ruota vicino, ma senza scordare un accenno alle tante (troppe?) costellazioni che ruotano attorno, chi più vicino, chi più lontano al nostro centro narrativo.

Il vento del cambiamento sta arrivando sull’America anni 20 e si iniziano a sentire gli scricchiolii della corrotta barca governativa che fa da cappello a tutto ciò che succede e quindi i nostri cari gangster, quelli con cervello almeno, iniziano a muoversi più cauti, ed è in questo senso che si inserisce la nuova liason Thompson – Rothstein per la gestione del traffico di alcolici. Ma di gangsters tutta pistola e mezzo cervello è pieno il mondo ed il nostro amico Rosetti sembra il detonatore pronto a far scattare diverse miccie.

Nella lontanta Chicago la storyline di Capone non apporta nulla di nuovo; Al è sempre più propenso alla rissa di strada del suo compassato capo Torrio, ma questo lo avevamo già visto e capito; la parte interessante è l’inserimento in questa sidestory del pruriginoso ex agente Van Alden, sprofondato nella tristezza e nel fallimento davvero miserevole, ma che forse potrebbe essere tentato di passare al lato oscuro dal nuovo rivale di Capone e questo si che potrebbe essere uno sviluppo interessante.

Della parte riservata a madre e figlio del mai troppo compianto Jimmy Darmody, sinceramente, mi sfugge il punto di interesse al momento, ma ha quantomeno il merito di riportare in scena il sempre splendido half-face Richard Arrow, che non spreca mai un minuto di quelli nei quali è in scena e che in un ottimo finale di episodio fa il culo a strisce al povero Manny Horvitz, che sconta così la pena per aver ucciso la povera Angela Darmody.

Arriviamo a Margaret, ex povera donna Schroeder e ora filantropa Signora Thompson.  A dire il vero, io in diversi spezzoni della passata stagione l’ho apprezzata molto, e devo riconfermare che le capacità sono innate, ma la sua caratterizzazione la trovo appesantita. Chiusa in una gabbia dorata, che forse ha scelto o forse, per la ferrea legge delle conseguenze involontarie, si è trovata come inevitabile, soffre e anela la libertà, non troppo metaforica, di volare verso cieli migliori. Celerà sicuramente stravolgimenti e serve a sviluppare anche il lato più intimo e meno esposto di Nucky, ma l’ho trovata forse troppo sovraesposta per non stroncare ogni mio entusiasmo. O fa qualcosa o le tolgono screentime, insomma.

Dal punto di vista tecnico, come sempre, nulla da eccepire, nella scelta delle musiche e nella fotografia molto più fredda e cupa, che fa da cornice a questa stagione che si preannuncia violenta e discendente verso gli inferi. Il pilot fa il suo sporco lavoro introduttivo e non lesina in pallottole che, confidiamo, il buon Terence Winter saprà sparare da qui a fine stagione

American Horror Story era stato nominato infatti nella categoria drama agli ultimi Golden Globe Awards 2012, ma è stato scalzato da Homeland.

Per ingannare l’attesa, e soprattutto per tirare le somme della stagione passata, Telefilm Central è lieto di annunciare la partenza dei TELEFILM CENTRAL AWARDS.

Dopo il successo della scorsa edizione torna la premiazione del nostro portale che, a differenza delle blasonate iniziative di cui spesso i così detti “esperti” del settore ci propinano, ha come unico obiettivo quello di premiare il meglio e il peggio della stagione televisiva 2010-2011 facendo leva sul gusto e le inclinazioni della nostra variegata community!

A guidare le nomination della seconda edizione dei TC Awards: Glee (ben cinque candidature, tra cui Best Comedy e Worst Actress per Dianna Agron), The Good Wife (quattro nomination, tra cui Best Drama), Dexter (tra cui Best Drama e Best Actor per Michael C. Hall) e i nuovissimi arrivati The Killing e Game of Thrones.

Tredici le categorie su cui sarete chiamati a giudicare (partendo dal tradizionale Best Drama, arrivando al più irriverente Worst Series). Le modalità di votazione sono semplici: ognuno avrà a disposizione una preferenza per categoria, e si voterà ogni settimana per quattro differenti categorie (per l’ultima settimana ne sono invece previste cinque).

I vincitori, che saranno annunciati alla fine delle votazioni, rappresenteranno quindi il meglio e il peggio della passata edizione televisiva: i giudici siete voi!
